couldn’t wait ’til august

yellowbelly-and-plum-We got this book a few months ago, and though it would be more suitable for back to school time, it is such a fantastic book, I wanted to talk about it now.

When I lived in Quebec as a missionary for my church, I met Nathan Hale, an amazingly gifted artist.  He impressed me not only by his imagination and humor, but by his perseverance.  He was always drawing then, and he is still prolific now.  His story is a perfect example of how hard work and diligence breed creativity.  Genius is found in the doing.

One of his recent books, Yellowbelly and Plum Go to School is about Yellowbelly who takes his best friend Plum to school with him.  It is funny and endearing and unexpected—just what I would expect from Nathan.

Is he the same Nathan Hale that did Rapunzel’s Revenge with Shannon and Dean Hale? My kids love that book. We will have to check this one out. Thanks for the recommendation!

I’m pretty certain I taught Elder Hale in the MTC – he was always drawing and was related to the Hale Center theater peeps. It’s cool to see him doing this!

Jamie! I didn’ t know you had served a mission! I finally got on facebook the other day and Damon mentioned wanting to see a picture of Mitch. I happened to have one and posted it there. When I was going through my pictures I saw you in a couple of them (this surprised me since Jodi isn’t in any of them). Anyway, thanks for the book recommendation. Heading over to see if my library has it!
