this week’s latin word: taedium

taedium

Anyone want to take a whack at the definition?  It’s quite simple, and I imagine you’re all dealing with it in a heavy dose of it in your summer vacationing children right now.

Write your answer to the definition in the comment section, and then, let us know:  What are you all doing to overcome taedium (ted-ee-oom) during your summer break at your house?

At ours today, we took turns spraying each other with the hose.  Certainly not Disneyland, but we all feel much better.

My guess is it means boredom. Today my boys played outside with our neighbor and pretended they were spies. Love it when they will use their imaginations outdoors for hours–reminds me of what we used to do when we were kids (pre-computer, DVD, On Demand, Wii days) :)

I am having my girls (ages 6 and 4) fold their own laundry and I started the Clutter Bug. If they leave any toys out, they get “eaten” by the clutter bug which is a bag with a big fabric bug ironed on to it. They have to do a chore to get a toy out of the clutter bug. So far it is working like a charm!

I’m guessing this is related to the word “tedium” or “tedius” which would mean the same thing over and over… aka BORING. We had a big dose of Harry Potter fun with a celebratory feast (roast chicken, rolls, grapes, salads, pumpkin pasties, and chocolate frogs) and got all dressed up for the movie midnight premier. Anything but boring.

My guess would be boredom. We got out the cookie press and made spritz cookies with 12 different styles. They loved that. Lots of trips to the library, swimming, they love putting the sprinkler under the trampoline :) Summer fun!
