I have been wanting to eat one of these babies for over a decade.
When my oldest son was less than a year old, I saw this little video about The Doughnut Plant on Martha Stewart Living, and haven’t stopped thinking about them.
Last week, when I was doing a little project for Martha’s Circle, I finally got to try one some.
And I have to tell you, they were worth the wait. That one you see pictured is none other than their crème brûlée doughnut, which is their signature menu item. Did I ever tell you crème brûlée is my favorite dessert? I may have . . . but now I will modify my statement: crème brûlée wrapped in a dough and fried, and then torched on top, is my favorite dessert.
You can only get these beauties if you go to New York, and though I’d love it if they were to set up shop in Salt Lake City, we’re probably better off. It’s best to wolf down five doughnuts at a time only when you’re visiting a place you don’t visit that often.
Sooo, next time you’re in New York, be sure to pay them a visit and buy yourself lots of doughnuts. And be sure to say hi to Michael, and Mark, if he’s there.
Aren’t they delicious?! I loooooove The Doughnut Plant. A part of me wishes that they’d have their doughnuts sold in grocery stores near my home but I’d probably gain a lot of weight quick if I brought them home often. It’s probably better that they’re only available in an area where a lot of walking happens right after you scarf down a few doughnuts.
One of my absolute faves in NYC! I love the coconut cream ones – mmmm.
That sounds so decadent and delicious! Definitely worth the wait!
Candy—Oh, I know! The coconut cream ones are amaaaazing!!
Erma—so, so true!!
Oh wow. Now THAT’S a donut!
I love the Doughnut Plant!! I happened upon them last September when I was in NYC. I asked for what I should try and they recommended the yummy oatmeal donut but they threw in a Creme Brulee just in case I wasn’t satisfied!!!! It was so kind, so memorable, so everything. I took some cool pictures of their decor and never blogged about it – now I am inspired to do so!!! They’re a NYC / Chelsea treasure!! (I was at the Chelsea location….)
ohhh yeahhhhhhhh
Paula—I know, aren’t they just amazing? Yeah, I really didn’t mention how great everybody was who worked there . . . they were welcoming, funny, and really passionate about making my experience a great one.
Mark is the owner, and he is always at DP LES location. He is there every day, every night, into the wee hours, 7 days a week. Mark is also the original doughnut creator, the doughnut ingredient keeper, the reason for DP’s existence. He is meticulous about each and every doughnut going out perfectly. He checks them.
Michael must be a new guy. No idea who that is.
[...] I’m already to go again!). Remember a couple months ago I told you about those doughnuts from The Doughnut Plant ?? That was right after I got back from New York. I didn’t want to spill about the whole [...]
