Are your kids getting bored yet? I don’t know how many more episodes of Phineas and Ferb we can all take. A few weeks ago, I found this recipe for sidewalk paint on the internet. It amazes me how clever some of these mommy crafters are. All it is is a mixture of water, cornstarch, and food coloring. It was so simple, we had to try it.
To make the sidewalk paint, we got some water, cornstarch, food coloring, a muffin tin, paint brushes, a cup for rinsing, and a nice shady spot of sidewalk. We loved how the colors became more pastel, and more beautiful as they dried.
My son said the paint felt like cookies (he was referring to the cookies decorated with royal icing).
When they were dry, and when we were done enjoying our artwork, it was easy to sweep the paint from the cement, or even just let the rain rinse it away.
I hope you’ll all give this a try this summer. You won’t be sorry.
sidewalk paint
1 cup water
1 cup cornstarch
food coloring
1. Combine water and cornstarch with a whisk. Pour the mixture into separate muffin indentations. Add food coloring to each according to preference. Mix each paint color with a paintbrush.
2. Find a nice shady spot to paint outside, be safe, and have fun.
So cool!!
I know two little boys who will want to kiss you.
I love the idea! Fantastic alternative to 24×7 Spongebob, iCarly, etc. Timing is perfect too because it’s rainy season now here in the tropics so no need to clean up afterwards. By the way, your blog is so adorable, magazine-worthy and very very helpful to mommies like me. I discovered your blog thru Martha Stewart’s website. Cheers!
We used this same recipe for Avatar body paint last year! I didn’t know about the sidewalk paint. Thanks for sharing. I have pictures from the body paint on my blog: http://mommieforever.blogspot.com/2010/06/searching-for-pandora.html
Love it, Rachel!!!
That’s hilarious, Grace! My kids are watching iCarly right now.
[...] Sidewalk Paint – There have been more recipes for sidewalk paint floating around the internet lately than, well, something very plentiful. I like this recipe for its quick and simple ingredients. We made some spontaneously in a leftover 30 minute period before dinner. It’s that easy. [...]
