Sophistireaders, I’d like you to meet Marcia (pronounced Mar-see-ah, not Marsha, Marsha, Marsha!). She’s the friend who helped me try my failed Turkish Delight recipe back in December.
For ages, she’s been telling me about these cinnamon tortilla chips with strawberry pineapple salsa and a sweet glaze she had at a party once and then adapted herself. Last week, we finally managed to get together, and she showed me how to make them.
Oh, yeah. And they’re soooo good.
She uses Tortilla Land Uncooked Flour Tortillas (I think I’ve mentioned them before—they’re amazing.) We buy ours at Costco, but if you don’t have a Costco nearby, then first: I feel very very sorry for you, and second, you can just use regular flour tortillas, make your own, or order them online.
cinnamon tortilla chips
4 uncooked tortillas
2 tablespoons butter, melted
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees (180 degrees celsius). Using a pizza cutter or a pastry cutter, slice tortillas into wedges.
2. Place wedges on 2 baking sheets lined with parchment paper. Brush each wedge with melted butter. Combine cinnamon and sugar and sprinkle over the tops of all the wedges.
3. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the tortilla chips are crisp and golden brown. Allow to cool or serve warm with the salsa.
fruit salsa
1 cup (150g) frozen or fresh strawberries
1/4 fresh pineapple, skin and core removed
1 tablespoon honey
1 teaspoon orange zest (optional)
Use a food processor to combine all ingredients until strawberries and pineapple are finely chopped. (Or just chop them by hand)
sweet glaze
1/3 cup (40g) cottage cheese
1/3 cup (40g) cream cheese
2/3 cup (60g) powdered sugar
orange zest for garnish
Combine all ingredients in food processor or really good blender until cottage cheese is smooth.
Hey Jaime this is so cool! Your photos are amazing. So a dumb question…what is the sweet glaze for? Do you add it to the fruit salsa or dip the chips in it as well?
What?!?!
Are you kidding?!?!
You can’t post things like this while I’m detoxing. It’s enough to ruin healthy eating for the better part of a decade.
I’m going to make them tomorrow. No–tonight. No–oh! heck. I’m just going to have to make them ASAP.
Adios Detox. Hello you ever-lovin’ Cinnamon chips and fruit Salsa. Hello.
Where do you get uncooked tortillas?
I would place the whole uncooked tortilla on the parchment paper covered cookie sheet. I would spread the whole tortilla with butter and sprinkle with the cinnamon mixture and then cut. You don’t have to move the wedges apart. They will cook in place and is a lot easier and faster than transferring each wedge.
I buy mine at Costco, where they’re only about $6.00 a bag, but I found them online at this link: http://www.mexgrocer.com/44946-08210.html
Yumm-O! I have GNO tonight, and I was wondering what I was going to bring. They will all love this! but I agree with Melissa, what do you do with the glaze?
Sorry for not explaining the glaze, it is supposed to be like the sour cream you would serve with regular chips and salsa.
This sounds wonderful. I look forward to making it. I made your stuffed mushrooms last week and they were a big hit.
I make cinnamon chips all the time but never thought about pairing them with a sweet salsa! What a fabulous idea!!

Jaime – I love this post! I’ve had this dish at several girl parties (guys don’t go for food like this!). I can’t get enough of those Costco tortillas and I am so excited to have another recipe where I can use them. Thanks!
Hey, just wanted to let you know that I made this for my kids today and they loved it. I found my salsa was really wet and drained off some of the juice and the kids drank it and also loved it. I even got “you are the best mom and cooker in the world” Thanks for another winner…anita
This sounds wonderful. I’m new to your blog but I’m finding that you’ve got me hooked. I’m really enjoying it. Recipes, great photos, books… some of my favorite things. Thanks!
