My daughter, of course, wouldn’t touch this dish, even though it looks like a sunflower.  My sons, however, did like it, especially the yogurt in the middle.

Some of these ingredients may be a little hard to find if you aren’t in a nicer grocery store.  I found the figs and the Greek yogurt at Whole Foods, one of my favorite places on the planet.  If you can’t find a Greek yogurt, substitute it for a vanilla whole milk yogurt, and drain it the same way as the directions.  If you can’t find figs, you could also use pears, or strawberries, or anything else you would like.

Also, if you don’t have a cheese cloth, that’s okay. just use a couple layers of white paper towels. I used cheese cloth because the lines look pretty on the yogurt.

1 small container (about 8 ounces–225g) honey or vanilla flavored Greek yogurt
2-3 tablespoons very good honey
4-5 ripe figs

1. Line a strainer with a few layers of cheese cloth and set over a bowl. Stir the yogurt and pour into the cheese cloth. Set aside in the refrigerator for several hours, or overnight.

2. When most of the liquid is drained from yogurt, discard the liquid, and turn the strainer and yogurt onto the center of a plate.  Carefully remove the cheese cloth and drizzle with honey.

3. Cut the figs into fourths, and arrange around the yogurt and honey. Serve.

    1. It really does look pretty. What kind of figs are those? My parents have a fig tree in their front yard that produces so many figs they beg people walking down the street to take some.

      Sorry I didn’t get back to you, Connie. I think those are black mission figs. Nothing spectacular. I wish I lived in California and could get my hands on some strawberry jam figs. They look amazing.

      That sounds like a lovely dessert and I feel sorry for people who don’t like or even try figs because they’re some of the most delicious fruits on earth! They’re abundant in Sicily, where I come from, they even grow wild! In the U.S. however they’re relatively new and people are suspicious of the best part of the fruit, the center, which they consider “slimy” and therefore, unappetizing. They don’t know what they’re missing. Well, more for people like me who are crazy for them! I wish I had a neighbor who gives away figs!

    6. So true, Carmela! There’s a variety of figs in California called “Strawberry Jam.” I want to have a neighbor that grows those!!!
